Trans Inclusion and Gender Identity policy consultation

Archived
Consultation to help us have a clear understanding of the potential equality impact of our proposed policy approach, and to give people the chance to provide their views to identify and rectify any gaps, issues, or ambiguities in our draft policy.

The policy set out our overall approach, and individual council departments may still need to develop specific procedures and pathways to support trans people to access their services.

As part of our process, we consulted to make sure we heard all voices, that we have a clear understanding of the potential equality impact of our proposed policy approach, and that people had the chance to provide their views to support the Council to identify and rectify any gaps, issues, or ambiguities in our draft policy.

Why did we consult?

We committed to publishing a new Trans Inclusion and Gender Identity policy in 2022 to 2023. This was to provide clarity on how best to support trans and gender-diverse service users and citizens, as well as making sure other characteristics including sex-based protections are correctly and lawfully accounted for in any approach we take.

Our draft policy was available for consultation from 26 August 2022 until 8 October 2022.  Respondents were asked to read the draft policy and supporting equality impact assessment and to give feedback by completing an online survey or sending comments directly to the equalities team.

Consultation closed

Following this consultation, Bristol City Council is updating its guidance for staff and has created a gender identity policy which outlines different protections for services users.
