Replacing the tree

Funding is required to plant a replacement tree. If you would like the tree to be replaced, you can sponsor the tree by visiting our website or contact your local Councillor.

Commitment to trees

As a council, we are committed to increasing the number of trees in Bristol with 100,000 trees planted since 2015 as part of the One Tree Per Child and Trees for Streets programmes.

Timings

Depending on contractor availability, the work is set to be carried out early in 2026 to take advantage of the winter tree planting season.

Consultation results and decision

This consultation was open from from 22 December 2025 to 23 January 2026 via an online survey. Respondents could also respond to the tree felling notice via post.

Consultation outcome

Following consideration of all the comments, the outcome is that the tree is to be removed.

Reason for removal

Sufficient evidence has been provided through a rigorous process undertaken by Bristol City Council (BCC) Arboriculture department and demonstrates the tree is causing significant damage to the property.

Evidence includes arboriculture reports, site investigation reports and level monitoring readings. This process is undertaken on all trees implicated in property damage before any decisions are made.

Mitigation works, including pollarding, have already been undertaken though unfortunately have not had any effect on reducing property damage.
Engineering solutions to prevent root growth and water uptake, or to adapt and stabilise the property, are not feasible.

Bristol City Council is committed to increasing canopy cover across the city. Annually BCC plants many more trees than are removed and have planted over 100,000 trees since 2015 through the One Tree Per Child and Tree Bristol programmes with the aim to increase tree canopy cover to 20% by 2040.
