Homelessness and Rough Sleeping Strategy 2024 consultation

Archived
We asked you to tell us what you thought of our Homelessness and Rough Sleeping Strategy 2024.

Bristol City Council is developing a new Homelessness and Rough Sleeping
Strategy.

There is a legal requirement for local authorities to carry out a review of the data relating to homelessness and rough sleeping every five years, and to revise and maintain a five-year strategy based on the results of that review.

Council officers held engagement sessions between May 2024 and June 2024 with a wide range of organisations and individuals involved in homelessness and rough sleeping, including people with lived experience of using different homelessness and rough sleeping services in Bristol.

We have used the feedback from those sessions to draft a strategy which defines the strategic priorities and key objectives for the city to focus on over the next five years to reduce homelessness.

The four priorities are:

  1. Prevention
  2. Accommodation
  3. Working in partnership
  4. Helping people move forward

The purpose of this consultation is to seek your views on these proposed priorities and the strategy objectives. These are described in the survey.

The council consulted on its new Homelessness and Rough Sleeping Strategy from 20 August to 1 October 2024. We received some really helpful feedback and re-opened the consultation from 30 October to 20 November 2024 so we could hear from more people, including those with lived experience and those delivering services related to homelessness and rough sleeping.

Ended: 20 November 2024

What happens next

We used your feedback to help us write the final strategy.

The next draft of the strategy was shared with the multi-agency steering group who are governing the development of the strategy.

The final decision on whether to approve the proposed strategy was made by the council’s Homes and Housing Committee in December 2024. The consultation report was presented alongside the strategy. The committee approved the Homelessness and Rough Sleeping Strategy 2025-2030 and accompanying action plan.
