We're currently recruiting for a range of roles in the Divisional Financial Management teams as described below.

Financial Planning and Reporting Team

The Financial Planning and Reporting team leads the annual update of the council's medium term financial strategy and budget and the monthly financial monitoring.

This team has a group of Accounting Support Officers processing a wide range of council transactions, including requisitions, invoices, journals, virements and reconciliations for the wider Finance function and is looking for new, part time (up to 32 hours a week), member.


Capital, Tax and Treasury Management

This team spans a broad range of responsibilities, including supporting the delivery of a large capital programme, managing borrowings and investments, and providing tax advice, primarily VAT and off-payroll working assessments.

In this role you will collaborate with colleagues across the team, the wider finance function and the council to provide technical financial support. You will contribute to team activities such as accurate budget and expenditure reporting, the budget setting and year end closedown processes, and compliance with financial and tax regulations.

Children and Education

This team supports the council services relating to schools and children's social care and is looking for a new member of staff to assist in monthly budget reporting and undertake specific analysis of complex budgets.

What you'll be doing

As an Accounting Support Officer, you will:

  • Identify, develop and support opportunities to transform the way financial services are delivered across the council.
  • Assist in preparing and monitoring budgets, providing appropriate financial information, advice and support.
  • Reconcile accounts to maintain the integrity of our financial systems.
  • Ensure accurate processing of financial data to support effective financial management and reporting.
  • Provide financial information to support the completion of statutory and internal financial documents.
  • Offer training, advice and support on finance processes and procedures to stakeholders across the organisation.
  • Compile and analyse information to support project development, appraisal and tender evaluation.
  • Maintain financial systems, including invoice processing, calculating recharges and raising debtor invoices to maximise income.
  • Contribute to ad hoc investigations and improvement projects aimed at maximising service efficiency.

About you

You'll be someone who enjoys working with numbers, solving problems and supporting others. To succeed in this role, you will need to demonstrate:

  • Strong numeracy skills and the ability to understand complex financial data.
  • A sound understanding of basic finance principles and processes.
  • The ability to prioritise tasks and use your initiative to manage day to day activities.
  • Creative and flexible thinking to help resolve issues effectively.
  • Clear communication skills, both written and verbal, to build productive working relationships.
  • An understanding of equity, diversity and inclusion and how this applies in a workplace setting.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft 365 or equivalent business applications, and a willingness to learn new systems as needed.
