Muller Road (Railway bridge to Heath Road): transport improvements

Archived
We asked for feedback on the second phase of proposed improvements to Muller Road from the railway bridge by Shalon Road to Heath Road.

The aim of the overall project is to develop and improve the bus services running up and down Muller Road and to make walking and cycling easier and safer.

These proposals are part of our Lockleaze Sustainable Transport Infrastructure project to make sure our transport network can keep up with the level of local growth because of new housing in the area. It is being funded from the West of England Combined Authority Investment fund.

About the regeneration of Lockleaze

Muller Road: Phase one improvements

The first phase of our transport improvement works to Muller Road, which started in 2022 have recently been completed and included:

  • a 24-hour inbound bus lane on Muller Road between its junctions with Downend Road and Ralph Road
  • modal filters on Springfield Avenue, Draycott Road and Brent Road to stop traffic other than bicycles using them as a cut through
  • new traffic signals at Muller Road’s junction with Ralph Road
  • resurfacing Muller Road between its junctions with Downend Road and Ralph Road

Muller Road: Phase two proposals

In the second phase of our Muller Road transport infrastructure improvements, we are proposing to:

  • create 12 hour inbound and outbound bus lanes along stretches of the road
  • install a new bus stop and relocate a bus stop and a bus stop and shelter
  • install a signalised pedestrian crossing to replace the traffic island by the steps (public footpath) leading to Fairfield High School
  • install bollards between Shaldon Road and Elmcroft Crescent to stop access to motorised traffic while keeping it for pedestrians and cyclists
  • introduce a raised table (level with the pavement) at the junction of Stottbury Road to slow traffic down
