The primary function of local government regulatory activity is to protect the public, the environment and groups such as consumers, residents and tenants, workers and businesses.

The enforcement policy helps to promote efficient and effective approaches to regulatory inspection and enforcement.

This policy improves regulatory outcomes without imposing unnecessary burdens on business and others subject to regulation.

The National Trading Standards Regional Investigations Teams target criminals involved with:

  • doorstep crime
  • counterfeiting
  • fraud: consumer and business
  • other related crimes

The Regional Investigations Teams operate across England and Wales through eight regionally based teams. Bristol City Council is the host authority for the team operating across the South West region and wider when appropriate.
