Travel plan guidance and templates for new developments.

A travel plan is a package of actions to encourage safe, healthy and sustainable travel options.

It’s used to manage the specific transport needs of a new development.

You’ll need to produce a travel plan to submit with your planning application if your development will generate significant amounts of movement.

The travel plan must include an action plan that shows how sustainable transport such as buses, cycling or walking, will be made accessible at the development and their use increased.

The aim is to minimize single occupancy car travel to and from a new development.

Details of what your travel plan should include are in the pdf Travel Plan Guide for New Developments (438 KB) .

The travel plan guide includes full fees and enforcement details.

Use the document Travel Plan Template (72 KB)  and document Travel Plan Statement Template (162 KB)  to prepare your Travel Plan document.

Use the checklist in the guide to make sure your travel plan meets with our requirements.

All Travel Plans will need to include a Travel Information Pack (TIP). For an example, visit New Roots, New Routes on the TravelWest website.
