Group exercise classes for people with Parkinson's disease or who’ve had a stroke and want to be more active.
Who the classes are for
If you have Parkinson’s disease or have suffered a stroke, you can maintain or improve your quality of life by taking part in regular, supervised exercise with specially qualified fitness instructors.
The rehabilitation classes are designed specifically for people with Parkinson’s disease or who have had a stroke and are now:
- medically stable
- considered suitable to start exercising by their referring health professional
There are some medical conditions that are not suitable for people to take part in the classes. See the excluded conditions on the Physical activity referral programmes page.
How the exercise programme works
Everyone gets a personalised individual programme with a mixture of aerobic and resistance exercise. It is designed to help you back to physical activity.
Part of the exercise programme is based in the studio, using a circuit programme. The informal classes are carried out in a group with other people who have Parkinson’s disease or are recovering from a stroke.
How to join the classes
You can refer yourself by contacting the instructor directly at Hengrove Park Leisure Centre on 0117 937 0200. Ask the instructor for details of the cost of the classes.
Or you can ask your GP, physiotherapist or other health professional to refer you using the pdf Parkinson’s and stroke rehabilitation exercise referral form (60 KB) .
