Arrange a viewing of a deceased family member or friend.

Arrange a viewing

You must be the next of kin, or have permission from the next of kin, to view the deceased.

You must make an appointment directly with the mortuary office.

To arrange a viewing, email mortuaryviewing@bristol.gov.uk

If the person's death is part of a police investigation, your Police Family Liaison Officer will make the appointment and will be with you for the viewing.

Viewing times

Viewings are limited to 1 appointment a day and slots fill up quickly.

We advise you to arrange for the deceased to be moved into the care of your funeral service as soon as possible, so you view in their facility.

Our viewing times are at 1pm, Monday to Friday.

We can't make an appointment outside of these times under any circumstances.

We usually allow one hour for a viewing, but if you think you might need more time, tell us when booking and we'll try and help you.

Where we are

Flax Bourton Public and Forensic Mortuary, Old Weston Road, Flax Bourton, BS48 1UL

At the viewing

Children
Children can come to a viewing if you, as their parent or guardian, think it's ok.

Don't arrive early
Don't arrive early for your appointment. We only have one area for viewings and the previous family might still be using it.

Personal items
You can leave a small amount of personal items, such as cards, photos or toys with the deceased. We'll make sure they stay with the deceased when they're moved into the care of the funeral director.

Questions about the death
We can only help with viewings. If you have any questions about the deceased or their death, contact the coroner's office:
