Current allocation times for planning applications, and how we're working on getting older planning applications that have got caught up due to the backlog determined as soon as practicable.
Last updated: 28 October 2024
We’re working hard to determine all planning applications as fast as possible.
Allocation times
All new planning applications are now being allocated within approximately 1 week of validation.
All applications submitted more than 2 weeks ago have already been allocated.
Consultations with neighbours and the relevant technical consultees are also being launched within 1 to 2 weeks of validation.
After the consultation period
We recommend that you check what comments have been received once the consultation period has finished.
You should make sure:
- each point has been fully addressed in your application
- your application meets our policies so we can approve it
How to track application progress
You can track progress of individual planning applications using Planning Online.
What happens next
Where an application cannot be approved as submitted yet can be made acceptable with reasonable minor amendments, the planning officer will be in touch.
The planning officer will contact you once they have been able to assess the application and all the representations received.
Amendments
There’s only one chance for amendments for schemes which are acceptable in principle.
Unacceptable proposals
Where proposals are deemed unacceptable and not capable of being made acceptable with minor amendments, we will give clear reasons for refusal on decision notices.
Find help and guidance about what we expect of applications.
What we will prioritise
We’ll prioritise applications that have significant public interest or specific urgent medical or social needs.
Progress is likely to be faster if schemes are:
- straightforward
- have not received any objections
- do not raise complex technical issues
Otherwise, we'll process schemes in chronological order.
Read our update to the Growth and Regeneration Commission meeting Committee of 27 November 2023 for more information on what caused the backlog.
