A Temporary Play Street Order (TPSO) lets residents close a street to traffic so children can play.

You can apply to shut your street as often as once a week for up to 3 hours.

You need to apply at least 8 weeks before your first playing out session.

You'll need to send us:

Apply for a TPSO

Residents must be allowed access by vehicle at all times and arrangements need to be made to get barriers and signs in place.

Your TPSO is valid for 12 months from the start date.

Playing Out

Playing Out is a not-for-profit organisation set up by parents in Bristol, supporting play streets on a national scale. They can provide advice, guidance and friendly in-person support.

For a list of community organisations across Bristol who lend out kit for free, find out where you can borrow Road Closed signs and cones, plus view how-to guides and useful resources, vist their website playingout.net or email hello@playingout.net

We also have a pdf list of suppliers(31 KB) you can use.

You can connect with the Bristol network through the Playing Out Bristol Facebook group Go to https://www.facebook.com/groups/PlayingOut (opens new window).

Amend an application

You may amend or add to your application dates once within the period of the Closure Order.

You can't have more than one play date per week and must let residents know using an updated version of your original resident notification letter.

Send your amendment request and a copy of the letter to traffic@bristol.gov.uk at least 8 weeks before any added play date.

Renew an application

You can apply for a new one-year Order once the current one expires by filling in the same TPSO form above.

You must give us at least 8 weeks notice.

Make an objection

If you have an objection or comment about playing out in your street, first of all speak to the person who sent the residents' consultation letter.

Contact traffic@bristol.gov.uk if your concerns are not resolved.
