When
Every Wednesday morning, we hold a multi-professional inclusion surgery. These surgeries are held on a rotation basis in localities. There is, therefore, a surgery every three weeks for North, East/Central and South primary schools.
Who can attend
Any primary school in Bristol or in neighbouring local authorities can book a slot to discuss an individual Bristol resident child.
You will need the parent or carer's permission to bring a child to the surgery.
About
The views of the parents or carers and child are very important.
The surgeries run by the IncludEd team and are well attended by professionals with a range of knowledge and expertise, including:
- Education Welfare Service
- Families in Focus
- Safer Options
- HOPE Virtual School
- colleagues from our Early Intervention Bases
We try to work in a proactive way, encouraging schools to seek advice and support early on to prevent problems escalating.
As well as advice on actions the school may need to undertake, there are a range of resources the surgery team can allocate, such as:
- in-school mentoring
- off-site engagement work
- intensive therapeutic work
- small amounts of funding for short term pieces of work
- outreach work
- revolving door programmes
In this way we want to support our schools to reduce exclusion and ensure children are able to thrive as they should.
Attend a surgery
You will need to book a slot at the primary inclusion surgery. Contact your locality inclusion officer to book a slot.
Once confirmed, you will need to complete this referral form. Do not complete this form until your slot has been confirmed.
In the referral form you will need to:
- detail what you're concerned about
- detail the impact of the support which has been put in place
- try give a rounded picture of what's happening for the child
