When

Every Thursday morning we hold a multi-professional inclusion surgery.

Who can attend

Any secondary school in Bristol or in neighbouring local authorities, that has signed up to the voluntary inclusion support agreement, can book a slot to discuss an individual Bristol resident child.

You will need the parent or carer's permission to bring a child to the surgery.

About

The views of the parents or carers and child are very important.

The surgeries run by the IncludEd team and are well attended by professionals with a range of knowledge and expertise, including:

  • Education Welfare Service
  • Families in Focus
  • Safer Options
  • HOPE Virtual School
  • colleagues from our full and part-time ALP settings

We try to work in a proactive way, encouraging schools to seek advice and support early on to prevent problems escalating.

As well as advice on actions the school may need to undertake, there are a range of resources the surgery team can allocate, such as:

  • in-school mentoring
  • off-site engagement work
  • intensive therapeutic work
  • small amounts of funding for short term pieces of work
  • outreach work
  • revolving door programmes
  • a longer term place in an ALP School, in some cases

In this way we want to support our schools to reduce exclusion and ensure children are able to thrive as they should.

Attend a surgery

You will need to book a slot at the secondary inclusion surgery through your locality meetings.

Once you've had confirmation that your slot has been booked, you will need to complete this referral form prior to the surgery. Do not complete this form until your slot has been confirmed.

In the referral form you will need to:

  • detail what you're concerned about
  • detail the impact of the support which has been put in place
  • try give a rounded picture of what's happening for the child
