How to format files and what you must include on plans when you make a planning application.
Files
Make sure all pages in a file are the right way up. All pages in a file should have the same orientation.
Avoid using colour unless it is necessary.
Put documents in separate files.
Sizes
Each file must be less than 10MB. You can split larger documents into separate files and label them as part 1, part 2, and so on.
Your files must be less than 30MB in total.
If you are making a major application, you can submit extra files on CD or DVD.
File names
Name and number each document or drawing clearly and uniquely. You should include the title, drawing number and version, for example Drawing 001 Revision A – Existing floor plans.
Drawings and plans
You need to include:
- the scale and print size, for example 1:100 at A3
- a scale bar
- a north point where necessary
If your drawing contains architectural and decorative features, it must be at a scale of 1:20.
Site location plans
These must be at a scale of 1:1250. They must be A4 size. Use an arrow to mark north.
You must mark the development site boundary in red. If you own any adjoining land, outline it in blue.
Detailed site layout
Site layouts should be at a scale of 1:100 or 1:200.
Floor plans, elevations and sections
Plans should be in black and white and at a scale of 1:50 or 1:100. They can be either A3 or A4 size.
You must mark dimensions on plans and use an appropriate unit of measurement.
Existing and proposed drawings should be in separate files that are clearly titled.
Photographs
You should include a title in the image itself, for example the address of the site.
