The different exemption types explained.

You may be able to apply for an exemption from the zone charge if you meet the eligibility criteria and own a vehicle that does not meet the zone's emission standards.

Check whether your vehicle will be charged on the government's online vehicle checker Go to https://www.gov.uk/clean-air-zones (opens new window) (GOV.UK).

Some vehicles are nationally exempt from all Clean Air Zone charges. Bristol is also providing some ongoing exemptions.

Hospital Patient and Visitor Exemption

The Clean Air Zone is managed by cameras with Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR). If you have an exemption, the ANPR system will recognise your vehicle automatically and you don't need to display anything in your vehicle.
