The right adaptations or equipment can help you to carry on living independently at home.
How to help yourself
If you're looking for ideas to adapt your home yourself or buy your own equipment, you'll find suppliers on Well Aware.
Some people prefer to arrange and pay for adaptations themselves rather than wait for funding to be provided by us.

How home adaptations and equipment can help
Our home adaptations and equipment can help you to:
- get in and out of your home
- wash, bathe and use the toilet
- use your living and sleeping areas
- prepare and cook food
- access parts of your garden
- reduce risks in your home related to your health condition
We can offer:
- advice and information
- referral for rehabilitation, including short term support after an operation
- equipment such as bath seats and bath lifts
- small changes such as hand rails that we can install quickly to make your home safer and easier to use
- bigger changes such as wheelchair ramps, stairlifts and showers, if they will really improve your daily life
Who can get help
We may be able to help any vulnerable adult in need of home adaptations, but we'll see you as a priority if:
- you're terminally ill
- your care arrangements have broken down
- your health has suddenly got worse
- you or your carer are at risk of injury
- you can't come home from hospital without changes to your home

Grants
You may be able to get a Disabled Facilities Grant for adaptations to your home.
Loans
If the cost is more than £30,000, you may be able to apply for an interest free loan offered by our partner Lendology.cic
You'll need to have enough equity in your home, and your home could be at risk if you don't keep up with the payments. Accessible homes will discuss this option with you at the relevant time.
You can get low cost loans through our partner, Lendologyy.cic (formerly Wessex ). You can also call Lendology.cic on 01823 461 099.
