The Bristol Equality Charter and Network

We set up the Bristol Equality Charter with other organisations to help improve equality, diversity, and inclusion across Bristol.

The Bristol Equality Network is a group of people who champion equality within their organisations. It regularly shares information and good practice and supports new organisations that sign up for the charter.

Bristol Hate Crime & Discrimination Service

The Bristol Hate Crime & Discrimination Service is a partnership of six organisations.

  • Stand Against Racism & Inequality
  • Brandon Trust
  • Bristol Mind
  • Off the Record
  • Bristol Law Centre
  • Resolve West

It aims to offer a complete service for victims of hate crime and discrimination in Bristol and is funded by our Impact Fund.

Bristol Pride

Bristol Pride is an annual event to showcase and celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community.

The first Bristol Pride event was held in 1977. It was one of the first events of its kind outside of London. We are an official partner of Bristol Pride this year. The parade is taking place on Clifton Downs on Saturday 13 July.

You can find out more about Bristol Pride and upcoming events on the Bristol Pride website.

LGBTQIA+ History Month

LGBTQIA+ History Month takes place in February every year and is an annual commemoration of the history, achievements and contributions of LGBTQIA+ people in the UK.

It aims to:

  • support those raising awareness of LGBTQIA+ equality and diversity
  • promote knowledge and understanding of history and culture, both nationally and in Bristol, of the LGBTQIA+ community
  • acknowledge and celebrate the contributions made by LGBTQIA+ people to the cultural and economic development of the UK

Find more resources for schools and other education centres on the LGBTQ+ History Month website.

Stonewall Workplace Equality Index

The Stonewall Workplace Equality Index is a benchmarking tool for employers to measure their progress with LGBTQIA+ inclusion in the workplace.

In 2023, in recognition of the strength of evidence we submitted to Stonewall, we gained a Stonewall LGBTQ+ Inclusive Employer Silver Award.

We're working to improve our ranking based on the feedback we were given.

Our staff-led group

Our LGBTQIA+ staff-led group works to ensure equality within the council and to ensure diverse and representative points of view inform our decisions.
